Course Description

Stream insect biomonitoring is increasingly being used to evaluate the impact of restoration on stream ecosystem processes. This class will teach you how to sample and identify stream insects and other macroinvertebrates that are commonly used in restoration monitoring. Taxa covered in this class include Mayflies, Stoneflies, Caddisflies, Diptera, Dragonflies, Damselflies and other non-insect taxon.  This three and half day class will teach you how to use dichotomous keys with dissecting scopes to identify insects to the genus level and learn how to quantitatively sample insects using specialized field techniques for restoration monitoring.
