Course Description

Explore how clinical and social neuroscience, as well as interpersonal neurobiology and Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Adventure, help us to understand the cycle journey of the helper through suffering. Examine the warning signs of secondary trauma and explore six core skills to navigate away from the whirlpool of trauma into waters of resilience and hope.

Increase your understanding of how, as practitioners, we can take on and absorb the trauma of the people we work with. As brain research teaches us, we can experience in varying degrees what our clients experience, as our storytelling brain and social brain are essentially the same. Learn how to respond to traumatic stories while avoiding physical, emotional, and mental enmeshment in the trauma.
