Course Description

In “The Smart Grid and Sustainable Communities”, join PSU graduate students and regional energy professional in examining the implications of many of the new and emerging technologies and concepts that are associated with or could be enhanced by the “Smart Grid”: smart grid edge and core grid technologies, demand response, energy efficiency, energy storage, distributed generation, energy imbalance markets and other renewable resource integration strategies, and more.  They were supported by a multidisciplinary faculty team and nationally known guest presenters.

The course offers a cross-disciplinary approach, deepening individual areas of expertise in the context of teamwork. It incorporates lectures, active learning strategies, individual and group projects, class presentations from the faculty and guest speakers, and potential field trips. The series closes with a small Public Forum during which student teams will present their recommendations to their “clients” and community leaders.
