Course Description

Song Writing! Exclusively for students aged 13-18 who are interested in exploring or expanding their skills in song writing and computer music composition,
recording, and production technology.  The PSU SAMP (Sonic Arts & Music Production) Academy is an opportunity to become immersed in a comprehensive,
modern, technology-rich, and creativity-based learning environment.  The SAMP Academy is sponsored by the Portland State University School of
Music & Theater and will be hosted in the School of Music's Technology suite in Lincoln Hall. 
In this 8-week session students will learn song structure, how to compose harmonic progressions and melodies, setting words to music, MIDI programming and
recording.  Students will develop their unique musical identity by creating their own original song from start to finish.  Topics covered include recording, harmony, 
writing lyrics, modern songwriting techniques, mixing and mastering.
