Course Description

This course is designed for students who are preparing to start learning Chinese Medicine and are interested in learning basic Chinese medical Vocabulary. 

This course contains eleven sessions, covering the rudiments of Chinese, Chinese pronunciation, Chinese medical terms, Chinese culture and basic conversational Chinese. In the session of the sounds of Chinese, Chinese phonetic system, Pinyin (literally meaning ‘spell sound’), will be introduced incorporated with Chinese syllable, initials, finals and tones. In the session of the rudiments of Chinese characters, the strokes of Chinese characters, the formation of Chinese characters, the radicals of Chinese Characters and the writing of Chinese Characters will be covered. In the session of Chinese medical terms, ACPL expanded content outline and CH expanded content outline will provide an outline for the terms covered in this session. In the session of conversational Chinese, conversations based on clinic situation will be adopted as the dominant content.

Course highlights: This course introduces the rudiments of the Chinese sounds, Chinese characters, which provide a systemic outline for students who are looking for an entry course of Chinese language. With the Chinese medical terms and clinic based Chinese conversations, the students will be prepared with the basic knowledge for further study in Chinese medicine. 

Exercises are interspersed within each session to reinforce the content covered in the class.
